This concept coincides with the definition of "evidence-based practice" (EBP) according to the most important international organizations dedicated to the development of EBP, e.g. Cochrane, JBI, Campbell and GRADE. However, in the field of pedagogy, many prejudices, incorrect conclusions or a lack of understanding still prevails against evidence-based education, which as a result lead to lower effectiveness of educational interventions, to the marginalization of the values held by students and their parents, to the disintegration of research and practice, etc. The reduction of the meaning of this concept to determining the effectiveness of educational methods is typical. Therefore, in this paper, we explain the basic principles of the concept of evidence-based education according to the above-mentioned definition. We draw on the development of EBP in the field of evidence-based medicine and show the relevance of this concept for pedagogy. We deal with the nature of evidence, the evaluation of its quality/certainty, and the role of evidence in pedagogical decision-making processes. The paper also presents important organizations focused on EBP with special emphasis on the area of Czech Republic. Here, the Czech National Centre for Evidence-Based Healthcare and Knowledge Translation (CEBHC-KT) at Masaryk University in Brno and the Center of Evidence-based Education and Arts Therapies: A JBI Affiliate Group at Palacky University Olomouc support the development of EBP.
